Inventory

I gently put my dreams in the car boot
safely sealed clusters of security
beside poems of unconscious thoughts
brought to reality in the still daydream day

next to my poems
lie radical documents
gleaned from far off lands
bristling with war
and pages from my diary
navigating this soul's expression
making sense of the complexities
of the human condition

beside my diary I put all I know
of magic and mythology
lists of planet's virtues
balancing their difficult traits
and how they relate
to earth's epochs
from primordial time
when the great mother ruled
and all earth was in balance

not to forget my notes
on perfumes of Arabia
how Arabs first learned the art
of distilling perfume
from flowers and herbs,
saps and the bark of trees

I place letters from you -
written moods, varied
as moon's transit around
her wheel of constellations
alongside of poppies
and wild orchids pressed flat
peeping out from cellophane packs

my car boot is nearly full
yet I must pack everything in here
I have come so far,
don't know how long I'll be gone
where I am going -
if I will ever come back

seems right to make this inventory
of my treasury to reassure.......
